DTI allays extraction concerns

The issuing of a second offshore aggregates prospecting licence does not mean commercial extraction will follow.

That's according to the Department of Trade and Industry in response to concerns voiced by a new group formed to monitor the situation.

The licences cover areas north of the Isle of Man, and operations will start towards the end of August.

Development Manager for Minerals and Properties, Neil Corlett, says prospecting does limited damage to the sea-bed (audio file attached):
