Isle of Man runner-up in sport award

The Island’s been beaten into second place by Leicester in a prestigious sporting award.

The European City of Sport competition saw a team of assessors visiting the Island – but the UK city managed to pip us at the post.

The assessors said the Island has a well thought-out sports strategy, the government has excellent working links with sports clubs, the voluntary sector and other agencies, and staff are dedicated and experienced.

Manx Radio’s sports editor Tim Glover says second place is a tribute to the Island’s sporting facilities (audio file attached):
