Baby death probe re-opened

Eighteen years after the body of a one day-old baby was discovered at a Douglas nurses’ home, police have re-opened the inquiry.

The child was just 24 hours old when he was found dead in a bathroom at the home in Westmoreland Road.

He would have celebrated his 18th birthday yesterday (Wednesday).

The boy, who became known as Baby A, was wrapped in clean linen belonging to the hospital.

The discovery, on August 8, 1989, prompted a wide-ranging police investigation, however neither parent was ever identified.

Operation Ancestral is being led by Acting Detective Inspector Andy Turner.

He says it’s clear why the inquiry into the mysterious death has been re-opened (audio file attached):
