Basking sharks lose tags

by isleofman.com 9th August 2007
A basking shark called Dennis has been proving quite a menace for those attempting to track him. After the publicity white sharks have been getting around Cornwall, our own behemoths are quite harmless - although you might get a nasty suck if you get in their way!

There is however a lot of mystery about their behaviour. So tags have been fitted to track them.

Making sure a tag stays put is tricky, as the Manx Basking Shark watch know to their cost. Each of the tags costs ?2000, but one floated away in the sea and another came off but has now been recovered, to the joy of the watch members.
