A Douglas man who had sex with a 14-year old girl has been jailed for 15 months.

28 year old Karl Thomas of Marathon Road said he thought the girl was 20, although a court heard that she had told him her actual age. A further charge of rape was dismissed.

Thomas, who was also sent back to jail after the breach of a prison expiry date, was allegedly very drunk when he went to a flat on Peel Road with the girl.

Acting Deemster Alistair Montgomie said he was also very concerned neither had taken any precautions. Thomas was told he should have ensured the girls age, and his drunkeness was an explanation but not an excuse.

He will be on the sexual offenders register for four years.
