Death of Gordon Smith

by isleofman.com 7th August 2007
The former manager of the Derby Castle Aquadrome, Gordon Smith, has died at the age of 79.

Mr Smith was the Aquadrome's first manager, arriving in the Island in 1968.

He retired to Lytham St. Anne’s in Lancashire in 1985 and is survived by his son, Stuart, who lived in the Island for several years.

His 17 years in charge was marred by the Summerland tragedy, which impacted on his health.

Last September, Mr Smith and his son attended a memorial service for those who lost their lives in the fire of 1973.

Mr Smith’s funeral will take place in Lytham St. Anne’s on Friday afternoon.
