July weather

by isleofman.com 6th August 2007
The Isle of Man was one of the best places in the British Isles to be in July.

While many parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland experienced heavy or torrential showers and thunderstorms, only 63 mm of rain fell here - well within the normal range for the time of year.

The Met Office says we also missed several active fronts, one of which dumped over 100mm of rain over central counties of England on the 20th, leading to widespread flooding.

James Davis reports:

The showery conditions in July did mean there were 19 days with measurable rain - six higher than the average. The wettest day was the 13th, when almost 15mm fell.

But despite the seemingly grey conditions, temperatures were close to normal with an average daytime maximum of 17.3 degrees celsius.

And the total sunshine for the month wasn't too far off the norm either at 197 hours.

Wind speeds were slightly higher than usual, but we escaped any hail or thunder, and experienced just one day with fog.
