Minimum wage review needed

A call has been made for a wide-ranging review of how the Island's minimum wage is determined.

Tynwald last month approved a 3.7% rise - below the rate of inflation - to ?4.67 per hour for under-17s, ?5.24 for under-18s and ?5.60 for adults.

The new rate - an increase of 20 pence per hour – will come into affect from October 1st.

The Trades Council has long advocated bigger increases.

Social legislation officer, Peter Murcott (pictured), believes such a review is long overdue:
