Minister explains unit closure

The Health Minister says the closure of a Douglas mental health unit is purely for operational reasons and isn't a financial cut-back.

The facility in Derby Road is one of several properties used for patient rehabilitation.

Earlier today, the Transport and General section of the union, Unite, expressed concerns about the treatment of those who needed vital frontline services.

Minister, Eddie Teare, says the one person left in the facility is being moved to a newly refurbished unit, and no jobs will be lost as a result of the closure.

He says, with hindsight, it could have been discussed with staff bodies:
