'Green' car tax a nonsense - SID

Manx roads lobby group Safer Island Driving says the above-inflationary rise in car road tax announced recently by the transport minister has little to do with pursuing 'green' issues, and is actually targeting the wrong vehicles.

SID says the DoT should look at alternative measures, such as improved traffic flow and schemes that reward owners of genuinely greener vehicles, irrespective of size.

The group is also questioning how the additional funds will be used.

Chairman Frank Scheungel (pictured) says engine size alone is no real guide to carbon emissions:
