Emergency flight to help divers

by isleofman.com 26th July 2007
A rescue helicopter, flying at very low level, has brought two divers into the Island for emergency treatment.

They were diving on a wreck in Strangford Loch in Northern Ireland when the incident occurred yesterday evening.

At around midnight the two divers were landed at Nobles and taken to the hyperbaric chamber in Douglas.

Both divers aged 23 and from Northern Ireland, suffered Decompression Illness and underwent an initial six hours of hyperbaric therapy throughout the night. Their condition will be assessed further this morning.

The Helicopter used was operated by the Irish Air Corps and scrambled from Dublin. Because of the nature of the incident this necessitated a very low flight over the sea and through the central valley from Peel to the landing site at Nobles Hospital.
