by isleofman.com 23rd July 2007
A 36 year old man has been fined ?400 by the High Bailiff for using threatening, abusive, and insulting words or behaviour.

Michael Steven Moore of Ballaquark, Farmhill, Douglas admitted the offence.

Inspector Richard Power, prosecuting, said a group of men had been arguing in Switzerland Road, Douglas, at 3.30am on December 23rd. It developed into a fight, the group dispersed but then returned later and another fight started.

Inspector Power said one man made a comment to Moore leading him to start swearing and exchanging punches. All subsequently apologised.

Advocate Jim Travers said the defendant had initially attempted to break up the scuffle but he felt threatened. He'd been acting as a peacemaker.

It was accepted that they all squared up to each other and a wrestling match ensued.

Mr Moyle said the defendant's story was a familiar one to the courts and he suspected drink was a cause.
