'Natural causes' death of baby

by isleofman.com 19th July 2007
An inquest has heard a nine week old baby died from natural causes.

Elliot Kelly-Traynor was pronounced dead at Noble's Hospital after being taken in on February 12.

A post mortem carried out by specialists at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool was unable to give a precise cause of death.

DS Ian MacMillan said there was nothing to suggest the death was suspicious.

In a statement, Elliot's mother, Rachel Traynor from Close Rushen, Castletown, said on Sunday February 11, friends who were at the house suggested Elliot looked 'off-colour', but she said he appeared to be his normal self.

She said at bedtime he seemed to be suffering with collic, was crying and wouldn't settle in his moses basket beside her bed. After lying him in her bed, he finally settled and they fell asleep.

When she woke up, Elliot had changed position and she noticed he wasn't breathing. An ambulance was called and after trying to resuscitate him, paramedics took him to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Coroner Michael Moyle told Ms Traynor a number of children died in similar circumstances and she wasn't alone.

He offered his condolences and urged her to focus on her two daughters.
