Last Post for Corporal Gilyeat

Friends and family of a young soldier killed while on duty in Afganistan will gather for his funeral in Peel today (Thursday).

28-year old Corporal Michael Gilyeat, a photographer with the Royal Military Police, had volunteered to serve in Afghanistan. He died on May 30th and the service is at St German's Cathedral in Peel (pictured) at 2 o'clock.

Corporal's Gilyeat's mother and grandparents live in the Isle of Man. A service held on Tuesday near his father's home in Southport, was attended by colleagues from the forces.

Colonel John Baber is Regimental Secretary with the Royal Military Police and is here for today's funeral.

He paid a moving tribute to a dedicated young man:
