Report a 'costly white elephant'

by isleofman.com 17th July 2007
The report into energy prices in the Isle of Man has been a costly white elephant.

That's the verdict of Michael MHK David Cannan after forcing Tynwald to debate the report.

Its findings are out of date - and the report by the Office of Fair Trading will be of limited use.

Meanwhile taxpayers are left to pick up the bill.

Mr Cannan says he took a stand in Tynwald last week to highlight the wasted money and effort of commissioning such reports: (first audio clip)

MEA Chairman Eddie Teare says the organisation has moved on since the report began.

He says while some of the data used to make price comparisons is out-of-date, the exercise as a whole HAS been worthwhile: (second audio clip)
