Two men charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm have been jailed by Deemster Doyle.

Thirty-eight year old Michael Timothy Oscar Goldsmith, of Fairfield Terrace, Douglas was given a two year prison sentence.

Ian Ronald Goldsmith, aged 31 and care of the prison, was jailed for 15 months.

Both men admitted assaulting Karl Fayle at his home in Derby Road, Douglas on May 21, 2006.

Timothy Goldsmith admitted punching Mr Fayle three times and kicking him twice, while Ian Goldsmith admitted to one hard punch which put Mr Fayle to the ground.

He sustained serious injuries which kept him in hospital for four days.

Advocate Paul O'Neill, for Timothy Goldsmith, said he was deeply remorseful. He said he had gone to help his mother, who was distressed, and alcohol had played a part.

Ian Goldsmith's advocate, Darren Taubitz, said he was also sorry for getting involved and again alcohol had been involved

Deemster Doyle told the men they should sort out their problems with alcohol, and violence on another person would not be tolerated.
