Ireland tests DAB radio

As the Council of Minister considers the future use of DAB, or Digital Audio Broadcasting in the Isle of Man, the national broadcaster in the Irish Republic says listeners have responded 'extremely positively' to a large scale experiment.

RTE is running a trial service featuring half a dozen new stations, which can be picked up by a third of the population.

Head of Operation John Paul Coakley says the next step will be to apply for a permanent licence, under regulations introduced earlier this year.

He says DAB offers significant benefits to listeners:
