Big demand at farmers' market

The Island's first government accredited farmers' market proved a big hit among those who went along to the Villa Marina Colonnade on Saturday.

That's according to Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne, who opened the event and spent the day chatting to, and getting feedback from, members of the public and stallholders.

Many of the stalls, which offered locally produced items ranging from Loaghtan meat to ice cream, sold out long before the day was over.

Mr Gawne says it shows there is still a great demand for buying directly from producers (audio file attached):
