Future of market under debate

Market traders in Douglas are facing an official review - to see if the facility offers ratepayers value for money.

Douglas Corporation says like any local authority service, the town's indoor market has to be reviewed from time to time to ensure it remains viable.

Council leader, David Christian, says it doesn't necessarily spell the death knell for the facility.

A council committee is also looking at its membership of the National Association of British Market Authorities.

Councillor Christian says the North Quay market currently turns a small profit, but if that was to become a loss he would no longer support it (audio file attached):
