Island to benefit from DAB licence

Isle of Man residents will benefit from a second United Kingdom commercial digital radio network.

The BBC is due to bring in Digital Audio Broadcasting, or DAB, by early next year.

And the news that a Channel 4 led consortium will be including the Isle of Man in its network of 174 transmitters will make at least eight U.K. national commercial stations available, within a year.

Following a Tynwald debate in January, the Council of Ministers is looking into the future use of DAB in the Isle of Man.

Director of the Communications Commission, Anthony Hewitt (pictured), says more people will buy DAB sets as the number of stations available increases.

But it wouldn't be viable for the Island's stations to finance the switch to digital themselves:
