Minister backs local organic food

A working party has estimated there's a potential market of over ?1 million for local organic produce and says it's a fast-growing retail sector.

This Saturday will see the first fully-accredited Farmers Market, at the Villa Marina Colonnade in Douglas, which will give shoppers a chance to buy fresh food guaranteed to be locally produced.

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne (pictured) says organic food might be slightly more expensive, but that's because it's usually more costly to produce:
