Police who have been patrolling the Isle of Man Airport are to remain, but from today will not overtly carry firearms.

The decision to post armed officers was taken by the Chief Constable after the attack on Glasgow Airport on Saturday.

A statement issued by the force this lunchtime stresses there is nothing to suggest the Island is under threat from a terrorist attack.

And it warns the public against any racist action in response to recent incidents in the UK.

The statement says the Isle of Man Constabulary is working with security agencies in the Island and in the UK, the level of response is being continually reviewed and will remain proportionate to the Island's needs.

However it asks everyone in the Island to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the police.

We'll continue to see heightened police activity for some time, intended to reassure the public.

The statment goes on to urge the public against using recent terrorist incidents as an excuse to take any form of racist action against others.

Those who do can expect a tough response from the police, who promise to investigate all allegations fully.
