Chronicles return home

by isleofman.com 2nd July 2007
A work described as the "major medieval manuscript of the Island" will be back in the Isle of Man on public display from Tynwald Day.

The Chronicles of the Kings of Mann and the Isles is believed to have been started at Rushen Abbey around 1257 AD and details the significant events in Manx history, year by year, from 1000 AD until 1316.

It's been loaned to Manx National Heritage by the British Library for the next six months and will form the centrepiece of a new display at the Manx Museum.

MNH's Head of Professional Services, Dr Andrew Foxon, says its existence is vital to understanding the Island's pivotal role in the Viking's empire (audio file attached):

The Chronicles of the Kings of Mann and the Isles will be on public display in the newly refurbished medieval gallery at the Manx Museum in Douglas from Thursday.
