Apologies as inquest adjourned again

by isleofman.com 2nd July 2007
An inquest into the death of a Port Erin man has been adjourned again after an advocate representing a witness didn't attend court.

Forty-seven year old John James Hughes was killed when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on the Ballamodha Straight on November 12 last year.

Dr Christopher Jagus, who had been overtaken by Mr Hughes just before the accident and provided help at the scene, had just finished giving his evidence when the problem arose.

Edward Oldham reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Coroner of Inquests Michael Moyle asked witness Patricia Power, who had been involved in the collision, if she wanted to ask Dr Jagus any questions.

She said she didn't because she'd been told by her advocate the inquest would just be opened and adjourned today, which was why he hadn't attended court.

Mr Moyle pointed out that had already happened and seemed surprised Mr Kermode hadn't checked with anyone.

However, he asked Mrs Power if she wanted to have the inquest adjourned so he could be present and she said yes.

Mr Moyle apologised to Mr Hughes' family and the witnesses and said it would resume as soon as possible.
