Work permit review

The Department of Trade and Industry is looking to crack down on those in breach of work permit laws.

It follows the release of a review into the current system, ordered by Minister David Cretney after taking office at the end of last year.

The recommendations in the report include having a clear policy on work permits, giving the public more information about them and having valid economic data to make decisions.

Mr Cretney says enforcement is also a key factor and between now and October, his department will be looking into a range of penalties.

He says to do this, the I.T. systems need to be urgently reviewed:
