New test could save Island cattle

A new test for bovine tuberculosis, which could prevent the unnecessary culling of cattle on the Island, has been introduced by DAFF's Animal Health Division.

Agriculture Minister, Phil Gawne, says he's delighted with the breakthrough, which recently saved 80 dairy cows after some of the herd was found to be infected.

Mr Gawne says, thankfully, there are only sporadic outbreaks of the disease in cattle in the Isle of Man, but these are still of a concern for the department.

But he's certain the new test will lead to earlier and more accurate detection (audio file attached):
