House Purchase Assistance Scheme

Well meaning but not enough!

That’s the verdict from Onchan MHK Peter Karran after Tynwald approved a bid to increase grants and top-up loans to help first-time buyers.

The House Purchase Assistance Scheme includes a number of changes to the current system.

And with demand for first-time buyer homes remaining strong, the Department of Local Government and the Environment has plans to build an extra 414 homes before the end of 2009.

Mr Karran says the scheme is well intentioned but doesn’t believe it’s getting to the hub of the problem:
