Drug and alcohol arrests revealed

Home Affairs Minister, Martyn Quayle, has revealed there’s been 3,367 drug and alcohol related arrests that over the last three years.

Around 50 per cent of those arrested were later convicted.

Mr Quayle was replying to a House of Keys question from South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey.

In a further question, Health Minister Eddie Teare told members that to operate a dedicated drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit in the Island would cost over half a million pounds a year.

The current annual costs of sending referrals off-Island, he said, has never exceeded ?140,000.
