Mobile phone crackdown

The Home Affairs Minister has promised there'll be a new crackdown on people using their mobile phones while driving.

Speaking in today's House of Keys sitting, Marytn Quayle (left) said the offence will be moved up on the police's list of priorities.

He was responding to a question from Rushen MHK, Juan Watterson (right), who wanted to know what the department was doing to prevent people using mobiles in their cars and how many convictions there'd been since the legislation was introduced in 2001.

Mr Quayle said there have been 322 convictions so far.

And with regards to tackling the problem, he says there have been a number of campaigns highlighting the dangers and the law, but pledged this would be backed up by greater enforcement:
