More facilities planned for homeless

The Assistant Director of Social Services believes the combined approach to tackling homelessness in the Isle of Man could form a template for dealing with other social issues.

Andrew Swithinbank says the initiative started at St Andrew's Church in Douglas six weeks ago is already bearing fruit, with the DHSS and the police working with charities and other non-governmental organisations to broaden the service provided to the homeless.

At present there is a daytime drop-in shelter run by volunteers from a Douglas church, but more facilities are planned:
