Dream teams hard to find

The Treasury Minister has vowed to try again after Tynwald voted against re-appointing four members of the Insurance and Pensions Authority.

The decision was unexpected and is viewed as a potential embarrassment with the International Monetary Fund due to run the rule over the Island next year.

One of the members nominated to continue as IPA Chairman was the former Chief Minister Donald Gelling but, after the House of Keys was divided at 12-votes all, the Legislative Council voted 6-3 against the proposals.

After seeing his choices rejected, Allan Bell said Tynwald might not realise that such line-ups, prepared to take on such onerous work, were hard to find.

And he dismissed suggestions it was a case of ‘jobs for the boys’:
