Coastal monitoring for Michael

by isleofman.com 20th June 2007
A bid to protect Kirk Michael coastline from erosion has been strengthened.

Tynwald has approved an order that will allow the Department of Transport to monitor the village coastline and regularly survey for coastal erosion.

The order refers to the land lying between the Glen Balleira stream and the Glen Wyllin stream, and lying above the foreshore.

Michael MHK David Cannan (pictured) welcomed the move.

He said the issue was very important to the whole community and
distributed pictures showing the serious erosion which has taken place.

As well as DoLGE monitoring the coastline, the Department of Local Government and the Environment can take account of the Coastline Management Zone when preparing or revising development plans.
