Maternity deal

by isleofman.com 20th June 2007
There’s a better deal for expectant mothers after Tynwald approved new maternity rights yesterday.

From the end of September, they’ll be entitled to a minimum 26 weeks' leave – providing they tell their employer they're pregnant 15 weeks before their baby is due and when they want their maternity leave to start.

The current notice period is 21 days.

The new rights were described by Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney (pictured) as 'the most significant step forward in rights for workers in 16 years'.

Currently, an employee can return to work within 12 weeks of giving birth if they've been in the job for two years.
