Queen's birthday honours

by isleofman.com 18th June 2007
An Island resident has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list.

Jan Brooks of Douglas has received the award for services to breast cancer.
A teacher at St Ninian’s High School for 17 years, Mrs Brooks left the post six years ago to concentrate full-time on her charity work.

She’s been a tireless worker for a number of cancer groups and forums, predominantly as chairman of the Isle of Man Breakthrough Breast Cancer Group and patient representative both in the Island and London.

She says there’s been many advances during that time: (audio clip)

It was also announced on Saturday that a senior aide to the Queen's representative in the Island, Christopher Tummon, has been made a Lieutenant of the Victorian Order.

Mr Tummon is private secretary and ADC to the Lieutenant Governor.
