25 years since SIB collapse

by isleofman.com 15th June 2007
It’s 25 years this month since the event which forced the Island’s finance sector to undergo a painful rebirth - the collapse of the Savings and Investment Bank in June 1982.

The bank had its licence withdrawn by the government after it hit financial difficulties, resulting in a international financial scandal.

Some of its customers only recently received the last compensation payments.

Chairman of the Finance Board at the time, Dr Edgar Mann, has been reflecting on the period.

He said it was a difficult time to be in government (audio file attached):

The Finace Board was the forerunner of the Treasury.
