Chairman defends MEA prices

Manx Electricity Authority Chairman Eddie Teare is defending energy prices in the wake of a report showing the Isle of Man topping a league table of bills in the British Isles.

The figures were produced for Tynwald by consultants Oxera as part of an Office of Fair Trading investigation.

They show the Island’s electricity prices being the most expensive in the British Isles, but the MEA says the figures were collected in 2006 and things have changed since then.

Mr Teare (pictured) says prices elsewhere have gone up and claims the MEA is extremely competitive:
