OFT busy during TT

The Office of Fair Trading dealt with complaints on a range of issues during TT fortnight, but says it was no busier than usual, despite the increased number of people on the Island.

Among other things staff investigated claims licencees were serving short measures of beer, and people were having to pay to watch the races from places where previously it had been free.

Two illegal traders were dealt with, but there were no complaints about the 19 licensed traders who travelled to the Island. There were about half a dozen complaints about the Steam Packet

Chief Trading Standards Officer John Peet there was a feeling too many people were having to pay much, but that wasn't born out by the facts:
