More concern over phone transmitters

by isleofman.com 9th June 2007
It looks as if Manx Telecom will be asked to remove small mobile phone transmitters, from a number of public lighting columns in Douglas.

The Public Works Committee is recommending they should be taken down, because of health concerns, based on the electro-magnetic radiation given off by the equipment.

The Director of the Communications Commission recently told staff at the Village Walk GP's surgery in Onchan there was no need to worry about mobile phone antennae installed on the roof of their building.

Works Committee Chairman Ritchie McNicholl (pictured) accepts there is no proof of any risk, but believes the health of the public is too important to take any chances (audio file attached):

The Communcations Commission says is has no comment at this stage.
