Minister will present loyalty awards

by isleofman.com 5th June 2007
More than 50 die-hard supporters of the TT are to be honoured for their loyalty by the Manx government.

All have been coming to the races for three decades or more.

They will each be presented with an engraved tankard as a mark of thanks for their loyalty, at a special ceremony on Thursday.

Marian Kenny reports (text from attached audio file):

The TT loyalty awards honour those staunch fans, whose solid support has helped the event reach its centenary.

Most of the recipients have attended more than 30 TTs and many have been coming for well over 40 years.

Leslie Gilles is in his 90s and has been coming to the Island twice a year for the TT and the Manx Grand Prix since 1947, without missing a year. This is his 60th.

80 year old Ken Sprayson, who became known as the 'frame man' at the Grandstand, has been offering a welding service to racers and visiting bikers free of charge since 1957. He is making his 50th visit.

The loyal annual pilgrimage of all the recipients will be saluted at the presentation on Thursday by tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw (pictured).
