Research benefits TT riders

Competitors at the TT are to benefit from a new DHSS fitness leaflet, which aims to reduce accidents and improve their performance.

Dr Adam Standring, a member of the Motorsport Medical Services (Isle of Man) team has been researching how things like poor diet, dehydration and lack of fitness can hamper the riders.

Sports drinks and slow release liquid gels will be made availble, which have been found to improve competitors' concentration, energy levels and also post-race recovery rates.

And a basic exercise has been designed to combat common rider complaints like lower back and arm strain and arm pump.

Dr Standring says the measures, introduced gradually over the last couple of years, have received a lot of positive feedback:
