Phone mast 'no need for concern'

Residents in Onchan should not be concerned at the decision to site additional mobile phone masts on the roof of a GPs surgery in the village.

That's the view of Anthony Hewitt, Director of the Island's Communications Commission.

Mr Hewitt heard for himself the concerns of staff at the Village Walk surgery on Friday.

But he says radio magnetic emissions measured by OFCOM at other sites around the Island are well within limits set by the UK and other international authorities.

Mr Hewitt says he understands critics who point out the risks of exposure to asbestos were understood too late. But this is a different matter:
