Blaze investigation continues

Detectives investigating the fire which destroyed a house in the centre of Douglas are renewing their appeal for information from the public.

Officers are treating as suspicious the blaze in a property in Castle Mona Avenue behind the Empress Hotel early on Saturday morning.

The hotel was evacuated for a time as crews from five fire tenders fought to put out the blaze in severe conditions.

Detective Sergeant Iain MacMillan says it was a potentially lethal incident with so many people sleeping nearby (audio file attached):
