Circular Road planning row

by isleofman.com 24th May 2007
A South Douglas MHK says he’s ‘appalled’ at the appointment of an inspector to a contentious planning appeal as he's already considered proposals for the site.

A 50-strong protest group last month appealed against Heritage Homes’ plans to develop the old Keig's site - at the corner of Circular Road and Peel Road in Douglas - into a six-story apartment block with parking space in the basement.

And it’s now emerged the inspector dealing with the matter considered plans for the site four years ago.

Bill Malarkey (pictured), who was called in to assist the residents, believes the appeal should be re-heard: (audio clip)

Following legal advice, planning appeals spokesman Andy Johnstone confirmed it’s been decided to allow the inspector to prepare his report which will then be sent to Local Government Minister John Shimmin for consideration.
