Bates faces long prison term

by isleofman.com 23rd May 2007
A woman found guilty on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving has been warned she could well go to prison.

The seven day trial of 22 year old Lyndsey Anne Bates, of Cronk-y-Berry, Douglas drew to a close when the seven member jury returned its verdicts at lunchtime today.

Acting Deemster Montgomerie told Bates he was keeping an open mind as far as sentencing was concerned, but she faced the likelihood of a substantial jail term.

Fifty-four year old John Fieldhouse and his 24 year old son Rowland, both from Ramsey, died when their Renault Clio was involved in a collision with a Peugeot 206, being driven by Bates, on the Mountain Road, in November 2005.

She will be sentenced on June 22.
