Defence sums up in Bates case

A jury has been told a 22 year-old Douglas woman charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving should, at the very most, face no more than a charge of careless driving.

Lyndsay Anne Bates of Cronk-y-Berry denies causing the deaths of father and son, John and Rowland Fieldhouse, on the Mountain Road in November 2005.

In his closing address, defence advocate James Quinn said, putting aside the tragedy, this was a borderline case for careless driving and that a mechanical default led to the tragic circumstances.
