Suspended sentence for ABH

by isleofman.com 17th May 2007
A twenty year old Peel man who headbutted the licensee of the Royal Hotel in Peel has been given a 14 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months by the High Bailiff.

Matthew David Joseph Prendergast, of Church Lane, Peel, appeared for sentence after admitting ABH on the licensee, Colin Mitchell.

The defendant was in the public house on March 17th with friends and because he was drunk he was told to leave.

Mr Mitchell followed him to the toilets as he was concerned Prendergast may cause damage, but he turned around and headbutted Mr Mitchell, causing tenderness and bruising.

Advocate Steven Woods said Prendergast was upset because people, including Mr Mitchell, were laughing at him.

The defendant sustained bruising on both arms, after being frogmarched by Mr Mitchell.

Mr Woods made it clear Prendegast needed to stop binge drinking.

He was banned from entering on-licence premises, purchasing or being sold alcohol for 18 months.
