Bishop's concern about video ID

by isleofman.com 16th May 2007
From Friday, police will be able to use video identification in criminal cases.

Tynwald has backed an amendment to the constabulary's Powers and Procedures code, which would negate the need for police to gather volunteers for identity parades.

It means identification can be completed much quicker, and is less traumatic for victims.

The Lord Bishop, Graeme Knowles, was the only member to vote against the motion, claiming he doesn't feel identification via a computer screen will be as effective as 3D: (clip 1)

During the debate, Legislative Council member and former senior police officer Dudley Butt, assured the Lord Bishop photographs have been used for many years, when parades haven't been possible.
