Cowin jailed for breach

by isleofman.com 16th May 2007
A man who breached his community service order has been jailed for ninety days by the High Bailiff .

Alistair John Cowin of Seafield Avenue, Port St Mary, admitted the breach.

Probation Officer Tim Dunn said Cowin was ordered to do 200 hours community service when he appeared for sentence on April 10th for assault on police whilst resisting arrest.

Mr Dunn said the defendant attended his first session but failed to attend on April 22nd and 29th. No reasonable excuse was provided.

He asked that the order be revoked.

The defendant's advocate, Sue Griffin, said that Cowin had obtained employment working six full days and he was too tired to work on a Sunday.

He was now asking for another chance and would be happy to pay a fine.

Mr Moyle told Cowin he was warned in no uncertain terms when he was sentenced what would happen if he breached that order.
