'No real influence on Sellafield' - Minister

by isleofman.com 14th May 2007
The Environment Minister has admitted that the Island has virtually no influence over what will happen with the Sellafield nuclear plant in Cumbria.

John Shimmin was speaking after last week's visit from the chairman and chief executive of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the body responsible for cleaning up Sellafield

Whilst welcoming the visit, Mr Shimmin says the Manx government remains committed to seeking the closure of the site, but concedes there is likely to be activity there for some time to come: (first audio clip)

Mr Shimmin says he also has concerns about the whole decommissioning process: (second audio clip)
