Researchers reject criticism

A claim the recent public satisfaction survey, carried out on behalf of the Isle of Man Constabulary, lacked impartiality, is being angrily rejected by the independent researchers involved.

In a statement, issued jointly with the Department of Home Affairs, Birmingham based BMG Research refutes any suggestion those questioned were selected, and contacted, in advance by Chief Constable Mike Culverhouse.
That claim came from North Douglas MHK John Houghton, who is being told respondents were randomly selected from a database and nobody outside BMG had anything to do with the selection process.

Participants in the survey WERE sent a letter, signed in advance by Mr Culverhouse, but BMG spokesman Simon Maydew says this was merely to provide assurance questions were being asked with the Constabulary’s consent:
